Throughout the orphanage system in China, there are babies who need an extra dose of tender loving care. These children are among the most vulnerable due to being born with medical needs that often cannot be met in an institutional setting.
Our Healing Homes are staffed with well-trained nannies who devote their time to the careful nurturing of these children. Please read on to learn more about our Cleft Healing Homes and Heartbridge Pediatric Healing Unit.
Cleft Healing Homes
Through our medical work in China, we have realized that orphaned children born with cleft lip and palate often become failure to thrive babies due to their inability to feed properly. To a child born with cleft, life in a crowded institution can be a true struggle to survive.
In 2008, LWB opened Anhui Cleft Healing Home welcoming failure to thrive babies into a safe and warm environment. Trained nannies devote their time to the careful feeding of the children, and we provide surgery to correct their cleft lip at the first possible opportunity. Our second home, Henan Cleft Healing Home opened in June 2009 providing nurturing care to cleft effected children of one of China's poorest provinces.

Heartbridge Pediatric Healing Unit
Many children living in orphanages were born with severe medical conditions such as heart defects or spinal tumors that compromise their ability to grow and thrive.
Our Heartbridge facility, located at the Hope Healing Home in Beijing, is an 18 bed unit dedicated to helping some of China's most medically fragile orphans. Babies are sent here for a variety of reasons. Some need to gain weight and strength before life saving operations while others need a safe and loving environment to recover from complex surgeries. Children at Heartbridge are monitored closely by medical staff and receive the highest level of pre and post op care available.
