Tongren is a prefecture city in northeastern Guizhou province. It is a mountainous area with many lakes and rivers. The area boasts rich soil and is a main producer of tobacco. Tongren is also an ancient city with many tourist attractions. The most famous are Mt. Fanjingshan Natural Nature Reserve, Nine-dragon Cave Scenic Area and Dongshan Temple.

The Foster Care program in Tongren began in the second half of 2009. In collaboration with the local SWI, we placed ten children with local foster families. The children range in age from 3 months to 3 years. Several of the children have minor special needs such as cleft lip and palate and keratomalocia. Many of the children have already had their paperwork started to make them eligible for adoption. We are so hopeful that the love and care they receive from their foster families will give them a great start before they are adopted.

Sponsorship costs for this program are $35.00 per month. Each child in the program has two sponsors which enable full coverage of program expenses. Sponsors receive monthly reports that include the child's basic information, developmental updates and new photographs of the child.
