Dingyuan is a small city in Anhui Province, located in southeast China. Dingyuan is approximately two hours north of Hefei, the provincial capital, and has a population of about 92,000. Benefiting from the mild climate, the main industry in this city is agriculture.

The current social welfare institute in Dingyuan was built in 2000, and LWB’s foster care program began in 2004. This is one of our largest programs, with 25 children currently placed with loving foster families. The children range in age from a few months to seven years. Many of the children have varying special needs, such as congenital heart defects, cleft lip and palate, and autism. We are very pleased that many children in our foster care program have been adopted both domestically and internationally.

The foster care program is funded through child sponsorships. The sponsorship cost for this program is $35 per month. Each child in the program has two sponsors, enabling full coverage of program expenses. Sponsors receive monthly reports, which include information about the child’s health, development, and daily routines, as well as new photos of the child.
