Zhang Village is located in Hefei, the provincial capital of Anhui. Hefei is located in eastern China and due to its proximity to the coast it has always been an important link connecting eastern and western areas of China. It is considered a moderate size city boasting over four million residents. Additionally, Hefei is considered a scientific and educational city as both the University of Science and Technology of China and the Chinese Academy of Sciences call this city home.

The Zhang Village Foster Care Program began in May 2009. It was established to provide foster care to four children who were discharged from our Healing Homes. These children, all of whom had surgery to repair their cleft lips, needed foster placements that could provide for their post-surgical needs. We feel fortunate to have found the appropriate foster families for these children in one city. We anticipate that this program will grow as more children are cared for in our healing homes and then discharged to foster care.

The foster care program is made possible with funds provided through child sponsorships. The sponsorship cost for this program is $35 per month. Each child in the program has three sponsors, enabling full coverage of program expenses. Sponsors receive monthly reports, which include information about the child’s health, development, and daily routines, as well as new photos of each child.
