FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1) Is Love Without Boundaries an adoption agency?
No, we are a humanitarian agency and do not place children from China for adoption. If you are interested in Chinese adoption, we suggest you visit http://www.fwcc.org/info1.htm for more information on the process. For information on waiting children adoptions, please visit www.waitingchild.org
2) What are donations to your general fund used for?
Many times we have unexpected needs for children in our programs, and we use general funds to help make up the difference. For example, sometimes a surgery costs more than originally anticipated, or perhaps a foster child needs medicine for an illness. Donations to our general fund are used for whichever program needs them the most.
3) What happens when the child I am sponsoring is adopted?
You will be notified that the child is no longer sponsored by LWB and you will be given a chance to choose a new child or have your sponsorship cancelled.
4) If my adopted child is in an LWB program can I get updated photos and information?
The CCAA has asked for all communication regarding a child to go between them and the adoption agency, so we are unable to provide updates until the adoption is finalized. Once you are home with your new child, we will gladly provide you with any photos and reports on your child for free. Simply email us with your details and date of adoption.
5) Can LWB help me visit an orphanage?
LWB does not arrange orphanage visits and we do not arrange for outside organizations to do mission work in China. We do accept medical volunteers on our cleft missions to China. Please see our medical page for more details.
6) When I sponsor a child, am I the only one helping or does LWB get multiple sponsors for the same child?
All of our LWB programs are run in a transparent manner because we want our donors to know they are directly impacting the lives of children. The answer to this question varies between programs, but we always let our sponsors know if more than one sponsor is needed. For example, some of our foster care programs only require one sponsor because the costs are lower in some regions than others. Some do require two sponsors now because of the rising inflation costs in China and because we have hired local monitors to visit the children monthly. Our cleft home and our Heartbridge unit both require multiple sponsors to meet the running costs of the homes. Most of our education programs have just one sponsor per child. Our medical program often has multiple sponsors because for operations such as heart surgeries, it often takes many donors giving small amounts to fund a $5000 surgery. We always stop asking for sponsors when a child is fully funded. If you have any questions about how we run our sponsorships, please email us. We are always happy to discuss our financials.
7) How can your overhead be so low with so many programs?
Our overhead in 2006 was under 3%. We make a conscious effort every day to get every penny possible to the children in need. We know our donors have placed their trust in us, and we want to be good stewards of their funds, which are given with such hope and love for the orphans in China.
8) Is it possible for me to adopt a specific child I have seen on your website?
Pre-identification of children for Chinese adoption is normally not allowed. We always ask the orphanages we work with to please submit the adoption files of any children we help. Those files are then sent to the China Center for Adoption Affairs in Beijing, and they then place the children on waiting children lists with adoption agencies. If you would like more information on waiting child adoption, please visit www.waitingchild.org for a list of agencies who help place children with medical needs. Many parents who have fallen in love with specific children have been successful in locating those children on waiting child lists. Unfortunately, LWB cannot assist in these efforts.
9) How do I donate to the eBay store?
To donate items to our Ebay store, please contact our Ebay Store Coordinator by clicking here.
10) How can I volunteer with Love Without Boundaries?
We appreciate your interest in volunteering with LWB. Some suggestions on ways to help can be found on our "How To Help" page. We occasionally have additional needs. Please email our volunteer coordinator here and let us know a little about yourself, in what areas you may be interested in volunteering, your experience and background, and your availability. We will add your name to a volunteer list and will send an email to the list members when a specific need arises.
