Home > Education > Education Locations > Qinghai Province This holistic education program, nicknamed "Mama's Wish" as we believe it is every mother’s wish that their children be able to receive an education, currently serves students in Tibetan communities of the Qinghai and Sichuan Provinces. Geared primarily toward the education of girls, we facilitate the education of orphaned children, as well as the poorest yet most promising rural students in the area. The majority of our students attend Nationality Schools in TongRen and JianZha Counties, located in the Huangnan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Qinghai Province. Our college students from this area attend universities in Qinghai, Gansu, and Sichuan Provinces. Support is provided for tuition, room and board, school supplies, and tutoring. An allowance is also given for additional food, clothing, and necessary personal items to orphaned children in the program. Currently there are 100 Mama's Wish students sponsored through LWB, including 74 mid-high school students and 26 college students. An additional 100 students are sponsored through our partnership with Angel Covers Foundation. Fifty-six high school students will be graduating this year, and we anticipate that many of them will be accepted to Nationality colleges or key universities. Most of our college students are studying Tibetan language and literature or traditional Tibetan medicine. Once they graduate, they plan to return to their home villages to become teachers, open medical clinics, or become village doctors. By empowering these promising students to become the leaders of tomorrow, donors to the Mama’s Wish program know that they support not only the individual student, but, in many cases, that child’s village and future generations. In partnership with Angel Covers Foundation, we have served hundreds of Tibetan children in various ways since 2004, primarily in remote areas of the Qinghai and Sichuan Provinces. Besides offering individual sponsorships to students from primary school through college, we have purchased and renovated a school and new dormitories for orphaned children and children of nomadic herders in extremely remote Sichuan Province, purchased yaks for several schools, brought water supply and showers to two schools, purchased Gogi berry trees for a school to help it become self-sustainable, provided over 1,800 coats for rural children, purchased new textbooks and dictionaries, and provided specialized "Youth at the Threshold of Life" training geared toward the teens in our program.
